unsett(l)ing the table, this action was a lunch-performance directed with suggestions of topics of conversation, somewhat uncomfortable questions given the hetero/geneity of the group and challenges to be assumed, with the assertion of political positions on gender, sexual division of labor, domestic work, feminism.
With the presence of 12 guest performers/participants, most of these people already related to the project through several previous activities, the performance staged a lunch, where the conversation was mediated and directed by questions that had been written down on papers that — like stones or like silver — were placed on the table before the performance began.
Who eats what and where, – where, in the house?;
– on the table? – standing?; – quiet?;
– engaged in what concerns, what objects, performing what gestures?
These questions were read and followed by moments of discussion, latter emerging organically according to the different perspectives of the participants.
The bodies of the participants, their postures, the dialogue made with their hands, it all indicates discomfort — hostility but also alliances, empathy, understanding. Close-up footage tell this tense but supportive narrative.
